Brazil to Buy 1.2 Billion Condoms

The Brazilian Government is preparing an astronomical purchase of condoms. 1200 millions of condoms are to be bought and given out for free to Brazil’s population this year.

1.2 billion condoms, that is the largest purchase of condoms ever and it would be three times the amount of condoms given out in Brazil last year (2008) which was about 406 millions.

Brazil with its estimated 190 million inhabitants has recently just opened up its own Amazon-condom-factory. The rainforest condoms were supposed to decrease Brazil’s dependency of foreign condom makers.

Half of Latin America’s AIDS/HIV-infected people live in Brazil, according to recent UN figures.
