I’m constantly on the lookout for creative, interesting or innovative design solutions for the topic of safe sex or condoms. Last year I discovered two talented designers with appealing designs and now’s the time to show you what I found.

Robert Daniel Nagy and Mads Jakob Poulsen made In Your Pocket for a Danish design competition for young designers under 29. The goal was to create an appealing package for three condoms to be given away for free by the Danish non-profit Sex & Sundhed.

The target group were young people from 15-25 years of age. Each team participating in the competition consisted of two people, and was allowed to hand in no more than two proposals (they had to be done withing 24 hours).

And the award for the best Valentine’s Day window display goes to: Armani! Ok, granted, it’s a bit too early to tell, but the Armani Exchange store at Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento, California has already set some tongues wagging.

It’s a heart-shaped window display made of approximately 400 red condoms smiling at visitors on the first floor of the mall since the beginning of this week.

According to msnbc the condom heart is accompanied by the words “Give love get love,” “Practice safe love” and “Armani Exchange supports national AIDS fund.”

Here at Condomunity we love great designs, ideas and concepts to challenge the existing. And here’s a truly great find. I mean it’s no necessity, but I’d truly consider this as a bedside gadget: The Condom Dispenser Cucoon (unlike other – great ideas like the no panic button).

We have no word so far wether this is going to be available at anytime. The Cucoon is a limited edition of 15 built by Susanne Hanggaard and a friend of hers. It will be exhibited at this year’s Maison & Objet in Paris again and will be sold in 2009 by Danish Crafts.

There are exciting news for the manga loving community in general and for Junko Mizuno fans specifically. At MizunoGarden there’s now a line a manga themed condoms and lube available. Reasons enough for me to blog the cute artwork.

“Mizuno Garden” is a paradise of erotic fantasy where the fruits of love are always ripe. The crops include beautiful lingerie, costumes, condoms, lotions, vibrators, and more!

At the moment there are only the condoms and the lube, but many of the other “crops” are supposed to come later.

These times of prosperity for condom marketers/producers might just be the perfect takeover time. And sure enough we’ve been sent a tip about a possible Legends Condoms sale in Australia. Legends are known for their neat packaging and sell about 4000 tins of condoms a month.

Lately the brand received a lot of publicity because of its plan to showcase controversial artist Hazel Dooney’s work on their condom boxes (it never came to being though). Legends condoms are also the first condoms in the world to be awarded cruelty-free certification from PETA, stating that there’s no animal testing involved in the production of this product.

There are ten various designs for the condom tins that are made in China and Malaysia. In 2007 Legends won a bronze medal for their product in the Packaging Design Awards. Now, in 2009, there two interested purchasers of Legend Rubbers and we might see them in new hands as soon as in two month’s time.

Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza is helping to raise condom awareness among South American men.

As a spokesperson for the campaign “Hombres de Verdad” (Men of Truth) the beauty queen visited Nicaragua and its capital Managua this week. The campaign is part of No todos los hombres son iguales by PASMO (Organización Panamericana de Mercadeo Social) a social marketing entity active in Central America.

On Wednesday she reminded the Central American men not to forget to use condoms because this might save their lifes and the ones of their partners. She added that, everyone could get HIV because AIDS hasn’t got a face (“cara”), color or any other form of looks.

Back during the Olympic Games we reported about the massive condom use and the incredible viral ads by Elasun that were big in the western blogosphere and media.

Health officials distributed a 100′000 condoms in the Beijing Olympic village and another 300′000 in Beijing Hotels. These condoms were sponsored by the organizers and obviously produced in China. GOBON is one of the biggest Chinese condom producers and is also one of the largest condom supplier for the United Nations Fund of Poplation.

Luckily we got hold of an example to show to the rest of the world.

Torsten Blueher a German entrepreneur has registered a rather unusual trademark to say the least. Freedom tower make love not war is the new mark registered in a couple of countries for a couple of products.

As the NY Post reports the request for the trademark registration now lies before the US Patent and Trademark Office and “has 9/11 families howling and the tower’s owner, the Port Authority, scrambling to block it”.

While at the time it’s doubtful if the request for the registration of the trademark will be granted for the US with the Port Authority looking to block it, but the trademarks for many European countries is already a fact.
