Brazil Produces “Rainforest” Condoms

green Brazil Produces Rainforest Condoms

As we’ve reported earlier on twitter the Brazilian government has begun making condoms using rubber from trees in the Amazon. According to BBC News Online and the Brazilian health ministry this will help to preserve the largest rainforest in the world.

The move doesn’t come as a surprise. Brazil has been importing condoms largely in recent years to give away free as a part of the country’s national campaign to combat Aids. The health ministry has just handed out 10 million free condoms for the Carnival festivities.

The new state-run factory will initially produce 100 million condoms a year. Although this policy has been often criticised by the Catholic Church, Brazilian bishops may recognize the necessity of it soon.
