In Germany, the abbreviation “nok” in text messaging means “Nicht ohne Kondom”. In English it means nothing less than not without a condom. Who would’ve thought that it’s so easy? The New Yorker goes on explaining some of the most interesting shorthands used out there among the three billion cell phone owners.
I’ll give you my favorite ones right here:
- ~(_8^(|) for Homer Simpson
- “hosipa” is used for “Hovno si pamatuju” in Czech and means I can’t remember anything
- “aun” is Finnish for “Älä unta nää” and means “Dream on”
Great new shiny world of text messaging.
